Holland and Holland Royal 16 Bore Side by Side Shotgun S/H
The order date for this gun was August 11th 1914, the order initially made for 'Munn' although this name is scored out in the original day books, and over written with 'Johnston'.
It was made as a '16 Bore Royal Ejector Gun, 28" steel barrels, 2 triggers, detachable locks, recoil heel plate'. We are informed by the vendor that the gun was gifted to his Mother, Mrs Pamela Johnston (nee Holland) by her Father, Lt. Col. Jack Holland, D.S.O., M.C. in the 1930's, having the escutcheon so marked to celebrate the occasion.

John Edmund David (Jack) Holland was a vital cog in the Holland & Holland dynasty, continuing the longstanding family gunmaking tradition by running the company between 1927 and 1957, after a distinguished military career with the 7th and 5th Dragoon Guards. He became a direct of the company in 1927 and became Chairman in 1930.
In 1904 Lt. Col. Holland married Phyllis Lindsay-Watson, the couple had three children, Pamela being born in 1912 as the middle child. She married Gavin Johnston in 1934.
